Local transit buses could soon operate between St. George and near the entrance of Zion National Park — and serve such places en route as Washington City, Hurricane, La Verkin, Virgin, Rockville and Springdale.

The Five County Association of Governments and the Dixie Metropolitan Planning Organization are conducting a feasibility study for such a transit service.

They have scheduled three public meetings for next week to discuss such things as what level of service may be appropriate, and how the service should be operated.

They are Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the St. George City Council chamber, 175 E. 200 North; Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Hurricane Community Center, 63 S. 100 West; and Thursday at 2 p.m. at Springdale's Canyon Community Center, 126 Lion Blvd.

Residents may also complete an online survey about the proposal at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MS7M8HC.

St. George has a transit system, called SunTrans, that operates six routes in that city and neighboring Ivins. The one-way cash fare there is $1. Zion National Park also offers seasonal free shuttles within its boundaries to reduce traffic.
